About this deal

The book was very well-written and there were some lines that I had to re-read because they were so meaningful, including: The book starts with Greg Heffley describing how he is more of an "indoor person", and how he will spend his summer vacation playing video games in the dark; unfortunately, his mother stops him, saying that he has better things to do. Money is tight this year and Greg can't go to the beach. Greg and his friend Rowley go to Rowley's country club after school closes for the summer, but after a few weeks, Greg is not invited to return because he complains about even the smallest things, much to his disappointment. Overall, this is a very emotional and powerful book combining humour and sadness. Each of the characters is struggling to cope with something whether it be grief or their sexuality but the loyalty of the animals shines through and helps them through their dark days there are some good messages about friendship and love too. A great read in my opinion.

A charming, surprising and moving story of three troubled characters' encounter with love, grief, healing. It was released on October 12, 2009, in the USA and October 13, 2009, in Canada. The film, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days, released on August 3, 2012, was based on the book and its predecessor, The Last Straw. It follows the narrator, Greg Heffley, on his summer break between seventh and eighth-grade. Hilarious and moving, it recognises the unconditional love of dogs and their ability to make the world a better place WOMAN'S WEEKLY

Retailers:

This hilariously sharp comic book is written from the perspective of 11 year-old Greg, whose canny jokes and observations have become a series of popular books. Dog Days chronicles Greg's Summer holiday, which he wants to spend playing video games in his room, with the curtains shut and a cover over his head. Greg's mum, however, seems to think that Summer holidays should be spent doing 'useful things' such as running around outside, spending time with one's family and visiting the local pool. Then we have Dan, who has OCD, he’s also got Fitz, his yellow lab. He’s a man coming to terms with his sexuality, finding himself in his first romance.

Diary Of A Wimpy Kid Dog Days is a book about A kid named Greg Heffley. He is funny. This book is about how Greg Heffly spends his summer. But Greg Heffley doesn't spend his summer out side. He stays inside and plays video games. But Greg's mom doesn't like him playing video games. But she thinks of having family vacation and doing activities together. Greg and his friend Rowley do weird stuff during summer vacation. Greg's mom has a club thing called Reading is Fun. But Greg thinks his mom is weird. This book is really funny. It isn't always easy to read. Not in a misery memoir kind of way, but the fact there are not neatly parcelled up solutions delivered in a timely fashion with destination Happiness on all the postmarks. The characters are flawed but through their frailties we are given a wealth of insight into human behaviour and emotion and left feeling thankful for all we have. Friendship, kindness, love and forgiveness can help us to heal, and in George's case, some tear jerking letters written in advance add a beautiful intimacy to his particular journey of self discovery. Followed by whispers of 'Is that really Olive and Mabel?' - not to mention the occasional Hollywood approach - the three of them pad around literary festivals, breakfast TV, live radio and even an appearance on Good Morning America. Slightly bemused by their fame, Andrew not only pitches up in the iconic Mastermind chair, but makes a return to sports broadcasting to find that it has become rather strange as well. But, always, his pair of utterly endearing, endlessly optimistic and eternally hungry canine companions show just how precious our time is. Especially our time spent in the devoted company of dogs. A Russian doll of a book that twists and tugs each outer husk, revealing delicate and poignant inner layers. * BETH MORREY, author of SAVING MISSY * So first off, when dog is in the title- you’ve already caught my interest. Then making them part of the healing process for 3 different storylines and I’m fully sold.

There were several scenes with a gay couple that were so stereotyped and cliche it made me wince. And did I mention not one, but two insta-loves? The romance was not romantic it was just sex. George's storyline is that his wife got a dog she named Poppy before he passed (he hates it) and now George is left not knowing what to do since his wife took care of the house and dinner. Before you have any sympathy for George though, know he's nasty and rude to everyone and at one points calls two men "F" and I just hated him. He's nasty. Frankly his poor wife sounded like she was in an emotionally abusive relationship with the guy. At least that is how I read it. She could not even tell him she was ill because she knew how he was.

The connections between the humans are sometimes obvious and at other times more subtle, but as well as living in the same geographical area, these characters need each other. They are an eclectic bunch but have fascinating stories to tell and I adored the way the novel was put together to encompass heartbreak and joy, endings and beginnings, in the real life mess that doesn't guarantee soppy endings, but amongst the tears offers hope too. Waller has a lyrical way of weaving words that perfectly encapsulates a feeling or thought ... Funny, sad and reassuringly sage, Dog Days is a story of humanity, family and life. CultureflyA charming novel that focusses on the healing powers of man and woman's best friend * CHOICE Magazine * Ellen came home with the dachshund puppy three weeks ago. She didn’t tell George she was getting a dog. Didn’t ask him first...it was the first thing she had even done without consulting him. And then she died, which was the second.” If you take the F word out of George’s vocabulary, he’d be hard pressed to complete a sentence. He refuses to take care of himself or the dog. George reminds me of Ove, from A Man Called Ove. Another grumpy man with a heart of gold that shows his love by doing, not words.

The world would be a nicer place if everyone had the ability to love as unconditionally as a dog' MK Clinton Moving, uplifting, full of charm and warmth, [Dog Days] gave me much paws for thought. Such great characterisation, too - by the end, George, Dan et al felt like family! EMMA STONEX, Sunday Times bestselling author of THE LAMPLIGHTERS With its tightly plotted twists Dog Days is an exhilarating, at times even vertiginous ride... The mix of human passion and canine good sense works triumphantly.. * Ed Stourton, author of Diary of a Dog Walker * I would recommend this book to 3rd graders only because the cheesy humor Jeff Kinney, the author, puts in. Also I would want to let others know that this book has some great value because it's very common for kids to be lazy during the summer, like Greg, but it does show that Greg put in an effort of trying to do something productive while having fun. Easy to read and witty but full of pathos and sadness, this tightly plotted tale will bring you joy. BESTIn meeting these three characters we are introduced to others. Batty Betty who tries so hard to befriend George. Luke, a primary school teacher, cousin of Dan and who has Lenny in his class. And there is Atticus, a client who comes to Dan's counselling room. It's the things you can't prepare for that are hard, he realizes. They are the true test of character."
