Slik Lite CF-422, Slik Pro CF-634, Slik Sprint Pro III, Slik AMT 700DX How To Set Up A 3-Axis Video & Timelapse Motion There are far fewer options in this realm of motorized, multi-axis control, and even fewer options that seamlessly integrate all 3 axes of motion in such a user-friendly system. Thus, simply put, the Syrp Genie II 3-axis kit is one of the best motion-control systems available.

Not only that, but they’re designed smartly, offering an abundant array of nice features from things like effortlessly interchangeable batteries, to a built-in keyframe setup for the Genie Pan Tilt that you can dive right into immediately without the mobile app. Charging: An orange light indicates the device is charging and a green light illuminates when it is fully charged. I’ve been reviewing Syrp products since their original Genie hit the market many years ago, which we reviewed here. I’ve always found that they are built to a very high standard. In a market where new unknown companies pop up often and have poor or questionable quality products that could likely break in just a few months, it is great to count on quality brands such as Syrp to deliver durably-built gear for those who do serious work. Compared to other motion controllers the Genie is incredibly portable allowing you to never have to go without the option of motion control again. With no external batteries, complicated wires or third party controllers, the entire unit takes up just one slot in your typical camera bag.Now that we’ve laid out the groundwork for creating motion-controlled content, let’s talk about why you might want to choose the Syrp Genie II system for your work. In short, there are a lot of advantages, and the disadvantages we noticed are mostly related to “the nature of the beast” when it comes to motion control, and not specific to the Genie system itself. So, let’s get started! Easy Operation The very first time I set up the entire rig, I didn’t need to read any instructions at all. It was completely self-explanatory, from how all the different parts go together, to the dialing in of keyframes on the app. So, we’ve established that motorized motion control isn’t necessarily something that every videographer needs, however, its advantages are unique and in some cases absolutely essential for what you might want to capture. Make sure you are running the most recent App on Genie Mini. ios version 1.3.8 and Android version 1.1.0. Battery: Timelapse Mode: 24 hrs | Video Mode: 5 hrs | Charge time: 3hrs (Li-Ion Rechargeable Battery)

The Genie Mini is designed to play nicely with the Genie. Shoot next level 2-axis time-lapse or motion control video and add production value to your films by syncing the two together. *Note the Sync cable for connecting Genie Genie mini sold separately and can be found in the accessories section. At 1.5kg, you could argue the Genie is a little on the heavy side, especially if you’re lugging it around your camera equipment all day. Thus, considering that the price is in line with other systems, and considering that the Genie is one of the most durable, user-friendly kits of them all, it is definitely a great value. In all honesty, having a reliable, simple setup can make the difference in whether or not you get the shot, and that is extremely valuable indeed. The linear motion (from left to right) took a lot longer to set up, but I instantly loved the results. I just love the smooth motion and it’s exactly what I was looking. The ease in, ease out feature allows you to ramp your movement at the beginning and end of your time-lapse or video move. Once set, the movement will slowly rise up to your desired speed at the start of your shot and gradually dampen down at the end before coming to a complete stop. The form factor of the device is incredibly compact, slotting into a regular camera bag with ease and is capable of full 180° degrees of tilting motion and 360° degrees pan.

Long story short- No device out there is as simple overall, in terms of setup both physically and through the interface, as the Genie 2. Disadvantages Of The Syrp Genie II System? One of the things that sold me on the Genie is this linear movement is only limited by your slider length, so technically speaking, if you have a 5-metre slider, then the Genie still works. Turn off ‘image review’. On some camera types if image review is ON, previewing the last photo can affect the next shot causing the camera not to fire. LIVE VIEW OFF. I’d old school and I’ve always used an intervalometer for my time-lapses. It’s only been in the past year or so that I’ve switched to Magic Lantern (an internal intervalometer than you can install onto your SD card), and I love how easy that is to use. Well the Syrp Genie beats the lot. Once you get to your location, but before you actually set anything up, grab just your camera and lens to visualize the shot. Play around with various options for motion; see how sliding side-to-side might look with foreground elements, or see if you might want to slide up-and-down, instead. Try not to limit yourself to any standard ideas of motion operation, get creative! Lastly, you can go ahead and mount your camera on the Pan/Tilt, via the provided plate. (It’s not Arca-Swiss, by the way; it’s the other fore-aft plate style…) Step 4) Set Keyframes

That’s where the Genie Pan/Tilt and Linear come in. They’re created specifically to perfectly control the motion in your video/timelapse footage, so that it is perfectly smooth, and even repeatable. Genie II Linear is a highly portable and versatile solution for motion control. Our unique Genie rope system can attach to any slider on the market, giving you precise linear motion control up to 100m in length. Shoot smooth rotating video, create interactive 360° images of objects and completely automate your product photography when used in conjunction with the Product Turntable accessory and Syrp Genie App. In Use: Once you begin a time-lapse or video recording you can leave the Syrp app without disruption to shooting. Next, get your one (or two) tripod(s) set up, with the legs placed stably; spread them out at a safer angle if necessary. (Especially if there is any wind!)In auto start mode you can set a countdown timer to begin a recording or alternatively set a time and date you wish to begin your shot. When it comes to photography, there’s a very fine line between imagining what you want to achieve and actually being able to do it.
